19 immigrants rescued from the English Channel.
19 immigrants were rescued by the British Coastguard this morning whilst trying to cross the channel in an inflatable boat.

They are now on British soil and will never leave.

They know that if they make the attempts that we will rescue them and bring them here so it's worth the risk.

What's the solution? Take them back to France or leave them at Sea?

Agreed Brenty - those who don't care about the economy will be either reacting to immigration (you) or be using it to gain legitimacy for continuing to screw you.

Those who do care about the economy and don't want to screw anyone will be voting Remain. This is despite the issues with immigration (those can be dealt with by appropriate policy such as a quota system).

..." the UK remains a land where the rule of law applies."...

Prevention is better than cure. Stop the fuckers from entering the land to commit the crimes that the laws are set up to deal with.

Oh, wait. More money to be made from prosecution than prevention. For a privileged few, at least.

From my personal experiences of working all around the globe over the last 20 years MiM has just about summed up the way the world really is.

Rural Thialand has a comparitively shit standard of living (complete villages would be condemned and bulldozed if they were in a western nation) and the people work hard just to stand still, yet hundreds of thousands of Burmese, Lao, Khmer, Indians & Africans try to smuggle themselves in each day as even a shitty living standard is better than what they have/are trying to leave.

The Thais certainly will have none of it and have a whole police department/force set up simply to track down, arrest and deport within a few hours all such persons. No questions asked: the options are go home or sit and rot on a floor in a Thai prison - and the police won't bother letting anybody know who's there (although they will check their records should anybody ever ask).

The west could learn a lot from other cultures if it was prepared to accept that being occidental is not synonymous with being right.

The simple facts are that the UK, until it upgrades it's infrastructure, cannot physically accept the anticipated (in some cases, clearly hoped for) numbers unless those currently here take a corresponding drop in their own living standards - and those who will have to accept the largest drop are those with least to lose.

MPs won's suffer. Councillors and owners of big businesses won't suffer either - neither will anybody in a job or letting property and paying the top rate of tax.

Those that WILL suffer and be expected to "take a hit for their fellow human beings in the name of compassion" will be the ones less able to make any actionable objection - most of the people registered on here, in fact (despite the Walter Mitty bluster of some).

I can be as compassionate as the next man but I'm fucked if somebody/anybody is going to tell me where & when to apply MY compassion, and to whom.

If I ever run a pub I'm gonna name it "The City of Ur".

And staff it entirely with the daughters of the Russian far-right.

Re: 2500 people died this year trying for a better life
Pickle's pub killjoy analogy is absolutely baffling. It would be so easy to take apart if you only knew where to start.

Picksy you ever heard of the history of Assyria, Mesopotamia and the City of Ur?

Oh I've got a job alright.

You'll also know you've got a job when you foot an income tax bill like this one, Skwaper.
